Well last weekend we had our first rally outing of the year just across the border in Illinois. You have to love the midwest if, for no other reason, we’ve got the best tongue twisting names I’ve ever experienced. The Rally was put on by the Blackhawk Region BMW club and was held in Pecatonica IL, at the Winnebago fairgrounds. Ok now, try to say it ten times fast “Hosted by Blackhawk at Winnebago, in Pecatonica.”
We really weren’t sure how it was going to go because it was the same weekend as a large WI ride which meant riders would have make a choice between the two on Sunday. Vendor wise, it appeared that the turnout was larger than normal. Part of this may have had to do with them giving away two free hotel rooms at the neighboring town which we were fortunate enough to win one of. Big thanks to the Freeport Hampton Inn for donating those rooms.
Saturday and Sunday were both a huge improvement weather wise over what the region has been experiencing so far this spring. For the most part the rain held off, the sun made an appearance, and temps, while a bit on the cool side, were good for riding. Folks come from all over to take part in this rally. I know I was talking to people from IL, IA, WI, MN, and even CO.
Just like in years past the baked good were great and the line for breakfast on Sunday was long as folks were anxious to down some of the Biscuits and Gravy the event is known for. There were some sweet bikes both in the meet and ridden in by rally-goers.
If you’ve never been to this rally I strongly suggest you think about putting it on your calendar for next year. If you can’t do the whole weekend, just stop by for the day, especially if you’re looking for some parts for your bike. Yea, it’s mostly BMW stuff but there is enough clothing and general gear to make it worth your while.
Thanks again to the Blackhawk club members for putting on this event. And of course thanks to everyone that popped by the booth to visit. It’s always great to meet new folks and visit with the ones that keep coming back year after year.
